In the vibrant city of Columbus, Ohio, there are few things more beautiful than witnessing a couple exchange vows in a setting that’s as timeless as their love. Recently, I had the privilege of photographing an elegant and classic Catholic wedding that perfectly captured the essence of truth, goodness and beauty. The ceremony took place at the stunning St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Hilliard, followed by one of the best receptions I have been to in a while at the Makoy Center—a combination that created an unforgettable day for the couple and their loved ones.

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony was filled with moments that radiated both reverence and joy. The bride, stunning in a classic lace gown, walked down the aisle to the soft notes of the organ, her veil softly trailing behind her. The groom, waiting at the altar, was visibly moved with absolute joy as he watched his bride approach. This moment was one of the many highlights of the day that I was honored to capture.

Catholic weddings are rich in liturgical beauty, and this ceremony was no exception. From the exchange of vows to the Nuptial Blessing, every part of the Mass reflected the couple’s deep commitment to their faith and to each other. The couple chose to have the Mass parts sung in Latin which added to the richness of the liturgy.

The Reception

Following the sacred ceremony, the celebration continued at the Makoy Center, a premier event venue in Hilliard known for its classic elegance and versatility. The Makoy Center provided the perfect backdrop for a reception that was as elegant as it was lively, seamlessly transitioning from the solemnity of the ceremony to the joy of the celebration.

The ballroom was beautifully decorated, with crystal chandeliers casting a warm glow over the tables adorned with ivory linens and lush floral centerpieces. The couple’s choice of a lavender color scheme added a timeless touch to the décor, creating an atmosphere that was both sophisticated and welcoming. The reception was filled with heartfelt moments and joyful celebrations. From the newlyweds’ grand entrance to their first dance as husband and wife, every moment was a testament to the love and happiness they shared. One of the most touching moments was during the father-daughter dance, where the bride and her father shared a tender moment on the dance floor, surrounded by the love and support of their family and friends.

At one point in the evening, the DJ got everyone on the dance floor in a circle around the bride and groom and got the party started with the chicken dance. As the night continued, the celebration only grew more vibrant. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, heartfelt toasts, and plenty of dancing. The Makoy Center’s spacious dance floor was filled with guests of all ages especially children, dancing and celebrating well into the night. It was a joy to capture these moments of laughter, love, and pure happiness.

Capturing the Timeless Moments

Throughout the day, my focus was on capturing the moments that made this wedding unique—the overjoyed glances between the couple, the joyful tears during the vows, the laughter during the reception, and the love that was evident in every interaction. These are the moments that tell the story of a couple’s wedding day, moments that they will look back on for years to come and remember with fondness and joy. I have had the honor of telling many love stories and this one was just one more beautiful example of how a couple's faith can be beautifully intertwined with the celebration of their love.
